The Land Ski Page FAQs
How difficult is it to ski The Land? The Land has three more or less separate trails. Unicorn/ENSOD and Hangman’s on the east are expert and require a skier who can turn no matter what the conditions. These runs are about 35 degrees steep and about two to three ski lengths wide at points. The main run or chute however could probably be skied by a strong intermediate skier. Also the area below the "chutes" could be tried by anyone above beginner level. This really is the best skiing in Wisconsin! (Editor's note: see the The Land Ski brochure for a diagram of these trails.) Back to TopDon't the cars get stuck in the snow near the trailer? No, unless there is very little snow, the car(s) are parked in Hoffman’s driveway across the hwy. One's provisions and gear are then backpacked down to the trailer. The general consensus (ha) is that this just adds to the adventure of the trip. Back to TopWhat if you don't ski or the conditions are bad - what do you do?Hike, goof off, take pictures, eat fine food, go cross country skiing, go snow-shoeing, drink beer, drink wine, catch the Packers on radio, play cards, etc. There is no shortage of things to do. Back to TopI'm not destroying my skis on those rocks! Not to worry, there is a full complement of "land Skis" with “rental” bindings that will fit anyone’s boot size. Bring your boots (poles if you like) and you're in business. These skis are tuned and waxed and ready to "rock" Back to TopDon’t you people freeze your butts off?The Metro is now at the Land "year round" and has been rigorously tested by our technicians at temperatures as low as 20 below zero. Test results indicate no permanent adverse effects and greatly reduced waiting lines. (A Metro is a rented portable restroom, like those used on construction sites - ed.) Back to TopWhat about sleeping arrangements?Three or perhaps four people can sleep in the heated Airstream. It is also possible to camp. Even if it is quite cold, if your tent is pitched near the utilities, an electric heater can be placed in the tent. Back to TopFreeze dried camp food, sounds just great (not)After a rewarding day on the hill, enjoy dinning at its best in the sumptuous “Excella Lounge”. Renowned Chef Pete’s reputation for gourmand cuisine has been hard earned. No ground chuck here pal, beef tenderloin, lobster, shrimp, German pancakes, eggs benedict are just some of the common menu selections. If you should tire of the lounge’s fine selection of macro-brews, then be sure to check out one of the frequent wine tastings at Fox Hollow’s “Skylight Casino”. That’s right, it’s the hottest slope-side gaming this side of Vegas. High stakes (cash only) cribbage, sheepshead and poker can keep you entertained well into the wee hours. Back to TopGolly gosh, it sounds like a lot of fun, where do I sign up?To make arrangements call or get in touch with Peter Reinhart or me - Erik Longreen. Back to Top Erik Longreen.
